If you feel lonely, scared or overwhelmed in trying to care and support a loved one, you are not alone!! We have found it to be so helpful to talk to others who understand and share the same experience. You can compare notes and offer support to one another as you navigate the mental health system, life after a diagnosis or the loss of a loved one.
Luckily there are many support groups in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area specifically for caregivers/parents of teens with mental health challenges.

Young Adults:
While Mind The Gap’s primary focus is serving our 18 and under population, we understand that entering adulthood, starting work out of high school or going to college is a big life transition and can be an extremely stressful time that requires some TLC. We want to make sure our youth feel supported during this period of their lives. Many of our resources offer help to our young people who are “adulting” for the first time. Search for those resources using the “college struggles” or “life transitions” tags for help specific to this issue. For Students is a great example of a resource who works with high school students and then follows them into those first years of college.
The Resource Hub also has contact cards for the counseling and mental health resources at our 5 area colleges and universities (CPCC, Queens University, Johnson C Smith, Davidson College and UNC-Charlotte).
