Qais Dabbakeh is a Biology and Economics student at Central Piedmont Community College, where he is a Truist Honors Scholar and has guaranteed transfer admission to UNC-Chapel Hill through C-STEP. His interests lie at the intersection of health, research, and community impact, particularly in understanding how the systems surrounding people can shape their access to resources and opportunities.
Qais has explored these interests through experiences ranging from computational biology research at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to a fully funded human rights fellowship in Cape Town, South Africa. At Central Piedmont, he also serves on the Honors Student Leadership Council, where he has facilitated a NAMI Charlotte education webinar focused on mental health resources, barriers to seeking support, and advocacy.
As an intern with Mind the Gap, Qais is excited to bring his background in research, communication, and community engagement to an organization working with young people and families in Charlotte. He looks forward to learning more about the nonprofit and mental health spaces while helping make trustworthy resources more visible and accessible to the communities that need them.
