Join us for an afternoon of meaningful discussion, interactive activities, and community building as we explore the intersectionality of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities.
Together, we’re bringing Charlotte’s community together to build connections, share lived experiences, and help shape practical mental health resources that will directly support QTBIPOC youth.
This event will be held on Friday, August 7th, 2026 from 2-5pm at NAMI Charlotte (1930 Abbott Street, STE 403 Charlotte, NC 28203).
Brought to you by Mind the Gap, hosted at NAMI Charlotte.
What Are Action Afternoons?
This is our take on a “living museum.” Imagine being able to talk to the exhibit!
Every quarter, our interns have the option of hosting a live event for their end of session “Capstone” project! An Action Afternoon is sponsored by key community members and organizations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. It is a place where mental health stigma falls away.
Facilitated opening and closing circles, a mini info-share about Mind The Gap’s mission and vision, and authentic conversations are just the beginning. We bring experts, survivors, community leaders and educators to be “guides” for our participants. Sometimes we keep the format very free-flowing, while other times our interns may choose to structure the event differently.
Typically, a “guide” agrees to answer any question (no stupid ones out there!) someone may have about the topic at hand. We create a safe space for the free-flowing of information, listening, questioning, heart-to-hearts, grieving and resilience.
Each “guide” gets a table where they can display any materials that help them in their work. A nonprofit may choose to “table” as they do at big events. Someone else might bring pictures or de-stressing toys, yet another might bring resources for healing. We always make it a point to support and invite an artist who deals with themes of resilience in mental illness.
Come join us! We’d love to see you there.
